Cyberpunk is a sub-genre of sci-fi that has emerged in the film and gaming industries in recent years that depicts imagery of a dystopian future, often containing themes of heavy political corruption and illegal activities and extensive technological advancements. The genre is often encapsulated through the idea of "high tech, low life". This concept sees a juxtaposition between the society which is seeing vast technological progression and innovative improvements with the restless and unstable social/political climate. These themes are explored in the popular film series "The Matrix" as well as other Hollywood films such as "Blade Runner". Whilst these films have acquired a cult following over the years due to the elements of entertainment and action they promote, the films often give the audience a bleak look into what could be the future of humanity. A world so focused on the progression of technology it undermines the progression of humanity.
